INTRODUCTION TO SIDDHA SYSTEM OF MEDICINE IN INDIA

Siddha system is one of the oldest systems of medicine in India. The term Siddha means achievements and Siddhars were saintly persons who achieved results in medicine. Eighteen Siddhars were said to have contributed towards the development of this medical system. Siddha literature is in Tamil and it is practised largely in Tamil speaking part of India and abroad. The Siddha System is largely therapeutic in nature.

Agastyar or Agasthya, is believed to be the founding father of Siddha Medicine. Eighteen Siddhars are considered to be important in the Siddha Medicine. Siddha medicine is claimed to revitalize and rejuvenate dysfunctional organs that cause the disease and to maintain the ratio of Dosha. Kayakarpam (special combination of medicine and life style) and Muppu (the universal Salt) are speciality of Siddha system of medicine.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA OF UNDER GRADUATE SIDDHA COURSE IN INDIA

  • Must have passed Senior Secondary (12th Standard) / Inter mediate examination with Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) or its equivalent examination with 50% in PCB
  • 17 years on 1st October in the year of admission.
  • Should have passed Tamil as one of the subjects in the 10th Standard or in Higher Secondary course.
  • Candidate who have not studied Tamil as a subject, they need study it during the 1st year.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION FOR UNDER GRADUATE SIDDHA COURSE IN INDIA

Tamil or English shall be the medium of instruction for the Course.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA OF POST GRADUATE SIDDHA COURSE IN INDIA

  • Persons who have passed Bachelor of Indian Medicine Degree course examination conducted by the Madurai University or an examination accepted by the syndicate as equivalent there to
  • Persons who have passed Bachelor of Siddha Medicine & Surgery;
  • Persons who hold degree in Siddha Maruthuvam, the duration's of which must be at least four years and have undergone an internship of Hospital for not less than six months and conducted by the Institutions as recognized by the State Government, or Central Government, or the Graduates of Siddha of foreign countries as recommended by the Government of India
