ENGINEERING COURSES

The term “Engineering” has originated from the Latin word Ingenium means "Cleverness" and Ingeniare means ‘to create’.

Engineering is an application that involves in scientific and practical knowledge in order to invent, maintain, improve, build, design, system, devices, material, machine and process.

The Engineering study is one of the best and most soughted disciplines of academic education. It is growing with the development of nation, education, technology and research.

Courses & Eligibility

What are the courses available in Engineering Field?

Engineering courses are available at diploma level, undergraduate level, postgraduate and doctoral levels.

Diploma Course leading to Diploma in Engineering

It is a 3-year course which students can pursue after the completion of 10 years of school education. It is focused on practical and skills-oriented training. It is a technical degree that only covers the essentials.

Diploma holders are eligible for lateral entry to the third semester Engineering Courses. Diploma in Engineering is offered in various disciplines.

Undergraduate Course leading to B.Tech / B.E Degree

Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) / Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) is the 4-year full-time undergraduate course in engineering. This course can be done with one of the engineering discipline. Prerequisites for pursuing B.Tech is 10+2 passed with PCM group from the recognized educational board.

Some Indian universities offer engineering degree under the name of Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) and some universities offer engineering degree under the name of B.Tech but whichever name is used, the degree course follows the standard curriculum laid down by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the University Grants Commission of India (UGC). There is no difference in the program objectives and learning outcomes of B.E and B.Tech.

Postgraduate Course leading to M.Tech Degree

Postgraduate course in engineering resulting in the award of a Master of Engineering (M.E.) or Master of Technology (M.Tech) degree . It is a 2-years course that one can pursue after completing a 4-year undergraduate program in engineering (B.Tech) / (B.E.)

Master of Science in Engineering (M.Sc.Eng.) - 2-3 Years

Master of Science in Engineering (M.Sc.Eng.) degree in India is usually structured as an engineering research degree, lesser than Ph.D. and considered to be parallel to M.Phil. Degree in humanities and science.

Doctoral Course in Engineering

Doctoral of Philosophy in Engineering (Ph.D) is the advanced research course in engineering that has the duration of 3 years. Course duration varies from college to college. Students admitted to the Ph.D. program should have a master degree in respective discipline.

Admission

Admissions in the UG and PG engineering courses is done through entrance examination. The admission to undergraduate programs of all the NITs and other reputed engineering colleges  is done through Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main). For admission to IITs (Indian Institute of Technology), students have to appear the JEE Advanced.

Some states also organize their own entrance test for providing admission to B.Tech programme. Some state level entrance exams are BCECE conducted by Bihar state, JCECE conducted by Jharkhand state, TS EAMCET by Telangana state, AP EAMCET of Andhra Pradesh state, MHT-CET of Maharashtra, GUJCET conducted by Gujarat.

If you want to take admission in M.Tech programme, then you have to appear the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering GATE. Some state level entrance test are also conducted for M.Tech admission like AP PGECET, TANCETCUCET etc.

Parameters to consider before selecting Engineering College:-

Following are the points which must be kept in mind that ensure you to have the admission to better institute:

Certifications: NAAC and NBA are the agencies in India which provide category certifications to an institute, like IITs and NITS come under A/A+ category. If any institute is claiming any such type of certifications then it must be checked on the official websites of these agencies. Along with this, companies also provide certifications to the institute which also increase the reputation of an engineering college.

Placement: Placement is one of the most important factors to be checked by a candidate before taking admission. It can be checked on the official website of the institute, news and media channel websites and the social networking sites.

Number and quality of full time faculties: It is very important to check that how much number of full time faculties is there in the institute as if the number of full time faculties is less than there will be very hindrances in the course completion. Quality of faculty must also be checked as on the grounds like teaching experience, degree of the professor etc. Better faculties helped the candidates in shaping their future in better way.

Infrastructure: Infrastructure is important factor which clearly indicates that how better facilities are provided to the students except placement and study. It can be checked on the basis of library, location, transportation, class rooms etc. Better infrastructure provides better learning experience and better learning environment.

Curriculum: Curriculum means the number of different courses and the number of specializations in a particular course at the institute. A large number of courses means a better facility for a student to choose a course as per his/her choice.

Extracurricular activities: This also plays an important role in the comprehensive development of the students. It makes students more confident as they get a platform to show their talents which aslo leads to good communication between them. So, it must be checked that the college organises fests or includes different societies and clubs.

Alumni Network: Alumni network can also be considered as the achievements of the engineering college. Alumni in good positions in private, public or government organization represent the better studies and placement services at the institute.

Tie-Ups/Study Abroad Programs/Internships/ scholarships: This is another parameter which automatically enhances the reputation of any engineering college. A good number of foreign university tie-ups, company tie-ups and study abroad program ensure a better exposure of a candidate, whereas internships and scholarships ensure better participation of a candidate. This parameter should also be checked before admission.
